Anand’s civil practice is broad. It includes contract, land law, landlord and tenant, company law, directors’ duties, civil fraud, freezing of assets, detention of cash, condemnation proceedings, restraint proceedings and judicial review/public law proceedings. His judicial review/public law cases arise from actions by public authorities or officials and includes challenges in criminal or regulatory cases, actions against the police and habeas corpus for those unlawfully detained, costs/wasted costs orders made or contemplated against legal professionals in legal proceedings, and professional negligence/misconduct of legal and medical professionals.
Anand’s criminal practice includes prosecution and defence in the full range of the most serious and complex criminal cases. These include murder/manslaughter (inclusive of capital murder), sexual offences (inclusive of child sexual offences, procuring abortions, prostitution etc.), firearms offences, drug importation/supply, human trafficking, gang violence and serious organised crime. His business crime practice covers serious fraud (including property, mortgage and tax fraud), directors’ disqualification, corruption, bribery, misconduct in public office, money laundering, restraint, account freezing orders and confiscation proceedings.
Anand is also instructed in advisory and appellate work before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in both criminal and civil appeals from Trinidad & Tobago and other Commonwealth Caribbean territories. He is also a member of the bar of England and Wales, UK.
